WELCOME TO THE ART & DESIGN SCHOOL IN CYPRUS
THE SCHOOL IS BASED IN NICOSIA IN THE AGIOI OMOLOGITES AREA
IN A BULDING OF TRADITIONAL AND CONTEMPORARY ARCHITECTURE
The school’s name is inherited from a combination of the ancient Greek words “Αιγαία άλς” - which mean Aegean sea or salt - and the ancient Greek word “γαία” - which means earth. The Αιγαια αλς expression is met in the very important writing of the Cypriot scientist Kyriakos Hadjioannou The Ancient Cyprus in Greek Sources (“Η Αρχαία Κύπρος εις τας Ελληνικάς Πηγάς”), another proof of the Greek tradition and origin of the Cypriots. In general, in this writing it is described how goddess Aphrodite, coming naked out of the sea in Cyprus with her hair covered with whitecap, tried to dry a braid of her hair from Aegean salt. As a concept, the name of Aigaia school of art & design in Nicosia, Cyprus refers to the mixing of earth with water, completely covering the unlimited combination and variety of colours in the globe. The continuous movement of the sea which does not stop even when it reaches its destination - earth - inspires Aigaia School of art & design for continuous exploration, research and creativity.
