Foundation Course in General Art & Design

       Studying on the Foundation Course at Aigaia School of Art & Design, will enable students to take an informed decision and provide them with the necessary knowledge and experiences in their chosen subject before they apply for a Bachelor's degree. It will be a chance to learn all about the fine art & design disciplines, in order to decide which area to specialise in. An extensive portfolio of art work will be the result of the foundation course, which is necessary to show in an interview for a degree course.

The students will be introduced to the following Fine Art & Design disciplines:

painting / sculpture / printmaking / film & video/ photography / interior design / fashion design / textile design / graphic design / illustration / jewellery design / ceramics / furniture design / product design / theatre & costume design / animation / architecture.

The course also includes art history, contextual studies and life drawing.

 

PREMISES:

Aigaia  School of Art & Design, is housed in a building, combining traditional and contemporary architecture, in Agioi Omologites area. The building is a purpose built Art School, offering all the necessary facilities including specialised workshops, studio spaces, library, computer room and exhibition areas.

 

COURSE OUTLINE:

The first stage of the course, is an exploratory programme designed to increase students' visual understanding across a range of media. Students work on a variety of projects covering all the creative arts disciplines. This part of the course is intensive and exciting. Students gain experience of potential pathway areas, since most of the tutors are practising artists and designers. During this stage the students will have the opportunity to travel to the UK in order to visit the most important relevant courses and universities.

In the second stage students will select their areas of future specialism. They will explore their chosen subjects in greater detail and complete their portfolio, for interviews.

In the third stage students will write and direct their own project using the knowledge and skills acquired during the course. The final major project will be presented and assessed in an exhibition that takes place on the competion of the course.
